Peggy's Period Project - Paint It Red!

What a nightmare: 13-year-old Peggy gets her period for the first time – during class! A reddish-brown stain is clearly visible in the centre of her chair and the whole class notices. Peggy would love to sink into the floor. But surely it can’t be true that she still has to be ashamed of having her period these days?

Together with her friend Leni, she wants to fight for more period tolerance and the two of them plan a sensational campaign – if only normal life didn’t always get in the way …

“Extraordinary and exciting. (…) The story, which is equally profound and funny, also includes helpful information about the period. This provides readers with factual information without detracting from the lightness of the text.” –
Svenja Kretschmer, Deutschlandfunk

“What a great book. I have a 10-year-old daughter and I’m going to give it to her and all her friends. Not only is it well explained, the book is funny and serious and at the same time empathetic.” – Katrin D., NetGalley

“It is written in an incredibly charming and funny way from the very beginning, so that there is no room for feelings of shame and really every taboo is broken. (…) All in all, I find this book to be incredibly valuable – because it conveys so many important messages and breaks so many taboos. In my opinion, this wonderful book is not only a great companion for girls approaching the topic of their first period, but also for boys, so that this topic can become more normal and no longer a taboo subject.” – @eine.kissenschlacht

“Finally a cool book about periods (…) The book was read very quickly, and even though my daughter had previously grumbled that a book on “thaaaat” topic was not necessary, she was then completely thrilled from the first page to the end.” – downey_jr, Lovelybooks

“You absolutely have to read this yourself! Lively, diverse and contemporary, with lots of heart, humour and a dash of chaos.” – Anne @annenbook

“I wish this book had been around when I got my first period. It’s so cool! It’s a thrilling novel that is surprisingly multi-layered. It’s not just about the title topic, but also about friendship, family, identity, art, anger and first kisses. (…) All boys (from the age of 11), parents, grandparents and teachers can and should read it. Because the taboo surrounding a topic that affects half of humanity must finally come to an end.” –
Henriette @henriette_linkshaenderin

“A successful novel about the first period, which is thematically broad and can also convince with its great design, likeable characters and humorous language.” – Kathrin Walther, Jugendbuch-Couch.de

“A wonderful story for girls who are just entering puberty and experiencing their period for the first time. Franziska Höllbacher manages to treat this often uncomfortable and supposedly ‘embarrassing’ topic so naturally and casually that you won’t want to put the book down. But it’s not just about periods – there’s so much more to it! (…) I’m really thrilled by how modern, diverse, funny and at the same time profound this book is written.” –
Katha @buch.im.wald

“Franzi (Höllbacher) wonderfully combines fiction and basic facts about periods – in text and pictures. The story is snappy, easy to read and pretty close to the everyday lives of your kids.” – @derkleinebuchfink

“If you’re looking for a funny, inclusive book about periods for kids (the protagonists are 13) that’s packed with excitement (true crime), lots of feelings and realistic family forms (not just mother-father-child, fathers who take on care work, fathers who are not over-fathers): this is it!” – @ilona.stuetz
