Ulrike Möltgen
I Was the Whole World
A girl dreams of her own body as a landscape: the jungle lies in her hand, a lion sits in her hair with a flowing mane. A circus tent stands on her leg. The director is a rough man, greedy for success and sensation, he captures the proud lion.
But when the whip cracks and the lion jumps, the dreamer realises: That’s enough for me! This is my dream, I’ll make the earth tremble! The lion’s prison collapses and the girl puts him back into his world.
Ulrike Möltgen tells her dream story in colourful pictures. She captivates the eye with finely executed details and the sensuality of her illustrations: with impasto oil colours, powdery chalks, taut strings and elaborate collages, she creates a world that immediately captures the attention of viewers young and old and holds it for a long time.
